Another brake upgrade
My front brakes need to be overhauled before they will pass inspection. The car has the standard 16" rims that came on the formulas, so I need something that fits under that. I'd like to get better parts than the stock replacements, but I'm not going to spend over, say, $500. I'd prefer to buy a kit, and not have to worry about piecing something together (but I will, if necessary). Is there anything out there for me, or is my price too low?
P.S. the brake lines are pretty much falling apart, and I've seen the DIY braided stainless steel hoses, but I've never seen a precut kit...is there one out there?

Ed Miller sells some kits, but I'm unsure of prices. Note the following link for brake lines:

I replaced the pads, rotors, bearings and seals, so the car passed inspection.
The only thing is, all this didn't replace any of the power the brakes used to have -- stopping is just about the same. Years ago, I used to lock up all four wheels at anything under 40mph. But I can't even get the tires to chirp.
Any ideas as to what part of the system is now my weak spot?

Brakes will take a little while to break in and get used to themselves, the pads and rotors. Give it a bit for things to set up good and you should get back to normal.

Stainless Steel Brakes makes a kit for around $400 for calipers pads and rotors Check it out. I think they advertise on the back of Chevy high performance or GM high tech mag.
