New Rear Calipers

I am thinking about replacing my rear calipers. My ones now are used. They work great, but don't look so hot. What do I need to know before I replace them and what brands are good? Thanks.

Calipers from the store will probably be rebuilt, not new. They'll have a dull aluminum finish. You could rebuild your own, cleaning and painting the casting and they'll look a lot better.

There are several manufacturers who provide caliper paint--I used engine paint on mine once upon a time, and it did very well.

I would rebuild mine, but the problem is that the little fin type ridges on the back side of the caliper on the right side (I think) appear to have been ground off in one way or another. Some are there, but look rough and some are not there at all. I would post some pics, but it is about 30 degrees outside , the camera batteries are dead and my little brothers lost my rechargable ones.... all eight of them.
