brake lines

are the hoses from an 88 disc/drum the same as a 91 all disc setup?

I'm asking because i bought a 9-bolt disc out of a 91 GTA, and I have an '88 disc/drum, and I don't want to buy braided lines twice, or even lines twice, if i don't have to.

btw, my left drum line is leaking fluid and it has to be replaced, since its between 16-30 bucks for a single line, the 95 for all 4 ss lines would be the obvious step if possible.

thanks.

p.s. yes, I did use the search feature, it's just hard to find definitive answers to such specific questions sometimes.

p.p.s. ebmiller, quick question, why would I want to switch to ls1 rear brakes that have single piston pbr's if the thirdgens had dual pistons? I couldn't seem to find anything on that either...thanks.

Here's a link that may provide some answers:

To my knowledge the only thirdgen car with dual piston calipers is the front 1LE's; the rest, including the PBR's, are single piston.

thats where i intend to buy from.

that doesn't really give me the answers I'm looking for because the differences may be because they changed the brakes from cast iron to the aluminum pbr's, and i've read that the pbr setup is pretty much compatible with everything from 88 to '02, for the most part.

I'm really just looking for a straight answer, if anyone happens to know for sure.

p.s. i have read of a person on here who did convert to rear disc without changing any other brake components, including the original drum brake lines.

thanks for the help though.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance--it's been too long since I swapped drum to disc. I can say, however, that the stock rear disc pass side has a hard line running to it. The PBR's have a flex line. Hope you find your answers. Ed will probably chime in eventually.

First question: No..the '88 rear disc/drum lines attach differently than the '89-up rear calipers do and the newer setups have 3 flex lines on the rear. On the front, unless you have 1LE brakes up front, the lines are the same. For the '91 rear disc rear you have you'll need the lines for a '89-up rear disc car. If you want just the rear lines and not have to buy a whole set including the fronts, let me know. I have 3 sets of rear only lines on hand for sale.

Last question: No third gen had rear dual piston brakes, only the fronts could be dual piston. And IMO I would run the LT1 styl rear brakes, they work great and are more of a direct bolt on than LS1 rears...but you have the good rear discs on the GAT disc rear so you're fine.

How much of a performance difference is there between the LT1 and LS1 rear brakes. I'm gonna road race my car eventually.
Whats the size difference between the rotors. Thx
