SSBC Calipers
Are the A181 calipers from SSBC worth the money? I need new calipers as one of mine likes to hang up, but I cannot afford bigger brakes at this time and only have stock 16" wheels.
These are the calipers that Jegs sells for an upgrade over stock replcement. they are $389.99 for the set with "high performance" pads. I have relatively new cross drilled rotors.
Also, are those pads they come with any good, and when I would buy new pads, would I have to get them from SSBC?

Thanks.

Do a search and you will find most if not all believe these are NOT an upgrade over factory. The two piston caliper actually has less piston area than the single factory reducing clamping force.
From what I understand these types of caliper along with a larger diameter rotor would be considered an upgrade like Ed's standard c4 that I am going to do. For over 400 hundred with shipping I wouldn't do it, for just a little more you could have the c4's.
If money is an issue get stock calipers (be sure to grease the slide areas well), be sure the hoses are good (replace them for sure if factory originals) along with some Hawk's HPS pads and you will notice an increase over stock pads and even more since your current setup is old and not working properly.

Just out of curiosity, how much is a complete c4 setup, and where is the best place to get it. I know bigbrakeupgrade.com (or something like that) has the LS1 kit for around the $600 - $700 range. are the c4's less and are they better than the ls1 setup?

Search for c4 brake upgrade. His name is ebmiller 88 I believe. PM
or email him. He sells both kits, top quality and reasonable prices
as you will see very reputable as you read up on the c4's . H esells the ls1 kits too and a lot of other stuff. NOBODY knows
more about brakes on here at least IMO.
