Rear Drum

Well its time for me to change my breaks, as I remove the left drum I notice that a few springs are broken, no biggie, I went out and got a spring kit for it. When I go to the right side, the drum will not come off at all. And yes, the parking break is off. Any suggestions on removing it?

go to autozone and rent/buy a multipurpose puller. Same thing happened to my girlfriends 87. The next best thing it to beat the crap out of the drum with a rubber mallet until it comes loose.

When I gave it that first tug, I fell back pretty far

::Edit::

Any clue as to what could have caused this to happen?

just your basic metal corrosion most likely. there's always the possiblity that your E-brake was stuck.
