did this happen when you did your pads...

ok, so im replacing the calipers, pads and hoses on the fron of my 91 5.7liter trans am. the hoses aren't coming in until tomorrow, so i figured that i'd just get everything else together. anyways, i put my rotors on (turned) and bot them in then install my new calipers with the ceramic brake pads, bolt them down and then once i bolt them down as much as i can i check everything. and here's where i was kinda worried: the pad that is not on the piston (the outer pad right) had a little bit of play on one side, and almost a 1/4" of play on the drivers side.

i figured that this is just because i don't have any hoses installed yet, and there's no pressure on anything, does that sound right.

thanks guys.

Do you mean there is space between the pad and the rotor? If that's all it is, just pump the brakes a few times and they'll move into position.

Or do you mean the pads aren't fitting tight to the calipers? The tabs on the pads can be bent to fit the caliper. This will help prevent rattling and possibly squeaking.

When you hit the brakes a few times after installing everything, it may take a few pumps for it to get hard. Its just adjusting itself.
