Rear drums knocking while using the pedal

Enough said really...while slowing down (e.i. using my brakes) the rear drums knock. The knock gets slower as the car slows down and stops when the car stops. Sound also stops when I release the pedal. The brakes are also really creaky (NOT squealing) and make a rusty sounding crunch noise sometimes when they get fully depressed as the car is coming to a stop. What can I do in the meantime before ai DITCH these things?!

I had a set of drums that knocked.. turned out to be warped drums.... the crunching and such could be the springs....pehaps...

It does sound like spring noise. What can I use for lube?

if the springs are really making a crunching sound I would just replace them. it really is not that expensive.. and t will keep any oil or other contminates from getting on the pads. I think i have rebuilt both drums on mine. including the cylinders, and it did not cost my that muck, and it improved the brakeing a bit.
