"New" PBR Questions
I hate when folks tell me to SEARCH, but it has really proven effective for this PBR upgrade project. I've still got a couple questions I could not find answers for:
1) on one of my PBR calipers, it has this big black donut looking thing bolted to the e-brake lever that I've yet to see on any of the posts. What is it and why is it there? (I'm going to remove it anywho, just curious)
2) I've been looking at Andyz28's 10-bolt drum to disc kit and I'm going to get the brackets, and shims but I'm curious about the "special spacer". Is this really necissary? Does it do any good? Would it mess up the relationship of the c-clip and cross-shaft in the differential?
Thanks,
Eric

1. I believe that's some kind of vibration damper. Not all years had it. I'd expect that you could remove it; but might get some kind of noise sometimes. I don't know for sure though.

You might consider e-mailing Andy for more info or purchasing his CD which is a nice resource, providing a how-to on both modding the spindles for 1LE's and modding the axel flange for the drum-to-disc conversion (other topics are covered as well).
Basically the spacer centers the disc-brake backing plate on the drum axle housing. Nothing else is affected.
FYI, Ed is working on a new backing plate which will require no mods to the drum axel flange. Sounds interesting.

I know I should probably ask Andy, but I wanted an independent opinion. Andy gave me a copy of his CD and it has BOOKOO info on this type stuff. I was lucky enough to meet him last month as he lives in my brother's neighborhood. That guy is a walking 3rd gen encyclopedia!
I also read about Ed's new template, I hope he gets it out soon!

The big black donut thing is a vibtation reducer, just take it off. It came on 4th gen LT1 PBR rear brakes. I take them off all my calipers. The spacer is nice to have but I don't think it a necessity, the 4 bolts will keep it placed right.
I'll keep you guys posted on the new backing plate.
