87 4wheel disk car cracks/pops when stopping?!?!
it never did this before.. seems like out of the blue when i begin to stop, either hard or soft, i hear a crack/pop sound (it is loud) from all 4 wheels. not at the same time and not all the time?!? i have taken off the wheels and checked just about everything but i can't seem to find an issue.. the only thing i notice is that the pads slide around in the bracket a bit. my best guess is that when i begin to stop the pads bite the rotor and are pushed in to the bracket and make the sound... does this sound correct?? what would cause this to start out of the blue??? pads look good and not worn down and car stopps ok.
BTW, i know it is not the wheels/tires because i have the stock wheels/tires i put on when it sits for the winter and a set for the summer. it does this with stock and aftermarket wheels.
EDIT: just to clarify, it only pops/cracks one time per wheel per stop...

When you redid the pads, did you install the clips or pad retainers? The pads arent supposed to move around a whole lot when you are stopping. The clips keep the inboard pad from moving around and are worth it.
Another thing, but some anti-squeal gel that you put on the guide pins and the backing of the pads. I bought a bottle of it because it was well worth it.
When you redo the pads, clean off the guide pins with brake cleaner and coat them with the silicone lubricant, they sell them in little packets. Put the anti-squeal stuff on the backing plates and make sure to install the retaining clips.
Also when installing the guide pins, they sell a socket with the allen head on it, so you dont have to use an allen wrench to tighten and loosen them. I invested in a set of these and it makes the job a lot easier.

Those moraine calipers take pads that have two metal tabs on them. Those tabs, if bent down, will seat the pad properly in the caliper. Both of my thirdgens did this and it was really, REALLY annoying. Look into that before you over analyze anything.
