82 Camaro, rear drum, proportional valve

I'm at an impass. I just dumped my car fund $$ into the rear-end (rear axle was leaking...so I upgraded to 28 spline with posi & new gears), a new slave cylinder in the rear, new rear brakes (drum) and replacement lines on the front. Having never messed the the rear end before, and being strapped tor time, I had someone else do the work.

Now it's time to bleed the brakes. It appears the propotioning or proportional valve is 'stuck.' I lost too much brake fluid (that's why I took it in the beginning...little to no brakes), and evidentally they can't reset the valve. They pulled one from an 85...but no joy. It was a different type. They pulled one from an 83...no joy. Can't find one from an 82. My mechanic says it is iron? Does anyone know what I have here? It seems unique to the '82 for some reason.

Summit has adjustable ones, but my car is a daily driver...and street-bound.

What are my options here...how can I work my way out of this? I can't afford to change the rear brakes to disc right now after all the other work. I'm too far in. Is there a re-build kit, or someone that has re-makes? I've been looking for a week. Thanks for any direction, guys.

I think gmpartsdirect.com has the brake valve you are looking for. It is part number 18009374 and is hidded under the cryptic name of "Repair K". If you go to their home page you can enter in the part number and it will give you the price. $32.xx plus shipping, taxes, profit, etc. To see a diagram of it, on the home page select the tab for Catlog, agree to the terms, enter the model info and click on search. On the results page, select the MECHANICAL tab, then click on BRAKES, then click on the double inverted arrow on the line for REPAIR K, then the link to 12 for the rear durm brakes. If that is the part you need, there you go. Otherwise you might look around a bit.

Thanks for the tip...no joy, though. That part is the Master Cylinder rebuild kit. At first glance, the prop valve appears available through GM, but when I we try to locate it, it is not in stock, and no longer available. I've tried all of the restoration places I could think of, but 82 is too new for them...and too old for GM. I'll update and let you know what I wind up doing, so others in the same boat may benefit.

Re: 82 Camaro, rear drum, proportional valve

The car has been down for a month now, and I'm at a total loss. No prop valve...no brakes. What would you do if this were your car...and a frequent driver at that? I just can't afford a rear brake conversion right now, but it has to be street-safe. Help??
