1992 RS Brakes? Single or Dual? HELP

I go to get some brakes for the 92 RS and the guy asks me if it's single or dual piston calipers. . which i do not know. Is there a way to find out without taking off the wheels? Also. . how hard would this job be to do myself? I've never really done it, but would like to get more into working on cars.

Thanks in advance

-Bill

My 92 RS has single piston calipers. I would assume yours to be the same, but I can't guarantee it. You should be able to look behind your wheels, without taking them off, and look at the caliper (located just behind the rotor). If it is a dual piston, you should see two separtate parallel round ends that could house two pistons. Taking the wheel off would make it easier to tell. Replacing the brake pads is pretty easy. Get a Haynes or Chilton's manual for your car, and it will walk you through the steps. I believe you'll need torx sockets to get the caliper bolts off and a jack and some jackstands to get the front of the car off the ground. PM me if you have any more questions.

Good Luck! and props for doing the work yourself!

The dual piston PBR calipers are alum. They are distinctive (and unrusted) so you should be able to verify without removing the wheel. Check the following link:

Sorry to Hijack your post. I have a 92 Z28 that had the calipers changed. I have rear disk. Did all of the 92 Z's have the aluminum four two piston calipers? The ones that were put on my car are single piston.

Unless your car is a 1LE, it will have the standard iron single piston fronts. The rears should be single piston PBR's.
