1LE Fronts With Rear Drum

I purchased a 1LE kit for my 88 Camaro that has rear drums. I figured I would not need a new master cylinder or proportioning valve. Is this correct? Also I noticed the 1LE kit I got from SSBC and all the other people who make it get rid of the water shield. Does that matter at all since it will be gone?

Here are some pictures of the pieces. Only question I have about the calipers is why did SSBC put two bleeder valves and one inlet on them?

You have the correct master. The combo valve you need is 14089496 1989 1st design: M1.0 tube nut threads (For 1982 - early 1989 applications). The water shield is ditched because you have to drill and tap two of the three water shield attaching holes for the 1LE adapter bracket. Some member have done this, along with cutting the ears off the spindle, on car.

Re: 1LE Fronts With Rear Drum

I ran 1LE front brakes with rear drums for a year with the stock proportioning block, it didn't give me any problems. After a year I converted to rear disks and I replace the proportioning block.

I had the brakes installed today and the pedal feels very firm. What would changing the proportioning valve do for me? I figure the valve is set for front disc rear drum so I should be fine. So far the brakes seem to be much better than the stock one piston.

I got rear drums and Im gonna do the same thing as you. Rear drums are better for burnouts anyways, you need your braking power in the front, the rear doesnt matter as much. You should look into PRAISE shoes, its like having disc brakes with a simple shoe swap.
