Parking Brake Parts

I took my 85 IROC to the shop today as my brake light has been coming on. I knew that there was an issue with my emergency brake as it is responsible for keeping my rear disc brakes in adjustment. I'm being told that I need to replace both rear calipers, the brake pads and have the rotors turned. I'm also told I need to replace the e-brake cables as they are shot. I knew the left cable had come loose and when I asked whether they had reconnected it and accessed the problem I was told that they had not. I'm thinking that I should replace the e-brake cables first and then determine if that has not corrected the problem. Any thoughts out there? Oh, and by the way, where is a good place to buy replacement cables for my car. I'm told that Chevrolet no longer carries them?

Re: Parking Brake Parts

My local mechanic said he would have to do a search online as all of his resources don't carry them. I found some on a site called GM Parts 4 Less. Has anyone had any experience with them?

Re: Parking Brake Parts

I'd be very surprised if replacement cables aren't available through Advance, AutoZone, Napa, CarQuest, and so on.

Re: Parking Brake Parts

I found replacement cables at this website www.gmparts4less.com
They are the exact same cables as offered through www.paddockparts.com but for about $20 cheaper and free shipping. The parts are new OEM. Ordered them yesterday.

Re: Parking Brake Parts

Well so much for my discovery of a location for the brake parts I need. Seems that these parts have been discontinued by the manufacturer and the vendor replied with "We do have an extensive network of parts locators, and vintage suppliers, but we were unable to fulfill this request for you this time". I have tried to go through my local parts store and while they seem to have a lead on 2 of the pieces I need, they have placed a special order to find the front cable.

My 85 IROC had single cables: from each disc to the attaching point above the drive shaft. By the way, I purchased mine from CarQuest (but it was several years ago).

Looks like O'Reilly's may come through for me as well. I'll know something by Tuesday.
