New Member - Brake Component help

Hi all,

I just recently acquired an 88 Firebird 2.8 , and am in the process of getting it road worthy.

Unfortunately the previous owner was a "mechanic" and managed to misplace or improperly install several things.

At the moment I'm trying to repair the rear drum brakes, I have both the spring kit and the adjuster kit which install no problem. The issue I'm having is the e-brake levers were just hanging there not connected to or doing anything. My spring kit came with small C-clips, so I'm guessing I'm missing a pin that retains those levers?

I can't find this pin on-line or in the catalogs where I work. Is this an available part or do I have to make something up?

Thanks

It SHOULD come in any brake hardware kit found at any parts store. if not I am sure someone can sell you one here on the forums.

Cheers!!!

Re: New Member - Brake Component help

Well, I've purchased both the Spring hardware kit and the Adjuster repair kit, both sides and neither includes the pins.

I've also checked the new shoes, don't include the pins, though shoes for other cars do have pins included. The store guys think I'm nuts

I also checked the GM diagram for this car, and it does not show the same brake setup I have. In the GM diagram for this 'Bird it depicts the E-Brake lever as having a hook that would appear to fit into the pad. Here's what I have:

Does my car have the wrong lever? I can't believe the hassle this is finding this small part, I expected it would be very common.
