Sand blasting.

I Pulled of my rear brake drum covers today. Planning on taking them to school with me tomorrow and sandblast them during my Ind. Study. I also picked up some rubberized undercoating thats heat resistant so i plan on painting them with that. So that will clean them up nicely And get them looking decent. In a few weeks im going to box my suspension parts and paint ti with the same stuff because its a rust inhibitor. So hopefully that will do some good. Anyone done anything like this? If so what did you paint hem with or put on them?

Re: Sand blasting.

It sounds like you have a good idea on what to do. Boxing your factory suspension is a nice cheap alternative to buying new or used tubular parts. I painted my rearend with black engine enamel paint, but cannot comment on how it holds up to the abuse of a daily driver yet alone a weekend cruiser because mine has been in the garage since I started the restoration. I've been debating on pulling the rear back down and giving it a coat of POR-15 because I am alittle unsure of how well the paint will hold up in the long run. My car is not planned to be a show car or anything, but I like my stuff to look good and I am not a fan or doing some stuff twice unless needed, so check out POR-15 because I have heard nothing but rave reveiws of it, it just might make your life alittle easier a few years down the line.

Re: Sand blasting.

the abuse was the main reason i looked into the bed liner/ undercoating type of thing for these parts. If i keep my stock rear end ill be painting that as well. If the undercoating holds up i will be doign it in that because its not all that expensive. The stuff i am planning o using is 7 bucks for a 16.5 oz can

Re: Sand blasting.

Sand blast then POR-15. This stuff is the ****. Best part is it is self leveling so it ends up looking like powercoating. I used this on my 4gen front spindles b/c on the abs sensor. Just bushed it on and wake away. Don't used off the self rubber undercoating!
