Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

For an honest answer? You asked so I will be honest.

It looks like the wheel rubbbed against it and marred the paint off- that was my first impression looking at it. Thats what I would think if I saw that brake caliper next to me at a stop light.

looks fine considering your wheels aren't highly polished either.

^that guy is soo wrong^

it looks nothing like the wheel rubbed it because it is clearly 3 dimensional and has the same finish on the top of it i think it is bad a$$ and i wish i had your wheels and brakes and probably your car

Re: ^that guy is soo wrong^

paint it all red, would look much better, why polish something that is going to get super dirty and require people to bend over and hunch to look at, seems like a waste of time, try polishing something people see like the rims.

Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

well i just wanted to do something different with the calipers, i think it looks real good with the polished wheels, which the wheels are highly polished with a clear coat over them. they just look dull from handling them so much.
and yeah i know they'll will get dirty, but hey I enjoy cleaning my camaro. DO WE ALL NOT?

I actually really like it it offsets the red well, and matches the wheels.

Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

if you spray a good clear coat on them, and just reach in the rim with a brush and brush them quick when you wash the car they'll stay nice.

Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Im sorry, but why spend the time on that? How many people are really going to see it anyway, or is it one of those things that you want done just because 'you' will know it is there?

Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

It really doesn't matter what everyone else thinks if you like it, but personally I think it looks unfinished... I think it would look better either all polished or all Red. I do though understand wanting to be different and again this is just my opinion...

Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

I think it looks very nice.
What compound did you use? Did you paint them? Did you use a solvent to thin off the paint 1st?
You could go back and get ultra-detailed with it if it were a show car queen, but the way it is is acceptable for a driver car. Has a nice appeal

Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Love the brake caliper. Reminds me of LT1 intakes. I might just have to do my LT1 rear disk brakes this way...if I keep the LT1 rear disks...

1MeanZ- Whats a good clear coat for polished aluminum?

Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

i too think that it would look better either one or the other. but hey it's your car. i was thinking about polishing my brake calipers but i run zr1 rims and you can barely see them behind the wheels so i couldnt justify doing it. maybe on my firebird i'll do it.

X2 on this... Clear it, and you wont have to worry about re-polishing it. Most dirt and grime should wipe/wash off fairly easily.

I kind of like it. I think black painted calipers with the polished areas would be sharper... but Im a big fan of black/chrome/polished. Either way, you did something less common, did a good job at it, and it looks good.

SO you get a thumbs up from me...

J.

Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Agreeing with ghettocruiser on the black/chrome/polished. It all depends on what you are doing with the rest of the car though.

Is there a spray paint clear coat that sticks to highly polished aluminum?

Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

I think it looks good. Like the C6 wheels too, of course I may have a reason or four. I am grinding all of the casting imperfections out of all of my calipers before they get powdercoated red. So I know what its like to do a lot of work that most will never notice, but I know, and I like it.
But I tend to like things that are a little different... LOL!

Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Doesn't look bad to me. Does this mean to everyone that doesn't like it and says not to waste your time or says it looks bad, that if your hood is closed on your car that you shouldn't work on your engine or trans and detail that too because you can't see it with the hood down?? I have competed in the Syracuse Super Chevy Show in NY several times and that is bonus points for the judges as you have gone above and beyond what everyone else does. When I go to car cruises or shows, I have more interest if someone takes time to detail their car. If the hood is closed, I generally just walk by it unless something catches my eye. If you pop the hood and trunk you don't have anything to hide. You are showing pride in your car.. Anyone can just own one!!! Next remark I already know is going to be someone who says (Chrome don't make it go faster) DUH!!!! Maybe faster isn't what you want.

Thanks.
It is the factory color, but has just been repainted. I won't be able to get the code off of it until tomorrow.

Re: POLISHED. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

i say polish the entire caliper and then shoot it with some clear and clean them once a week when you do your wheels. It will look nice

Oh btw to all the people who keep repeating "whats the point...it wont be seen yada yada", its the attention to fine details that makes a car outstanding. Everyone who looks at your typical boring red painted calipers will go meh...seen it, and then theyll see someone took the time and polished their cals and say WOW. I would.
