emergency brake cable??

hi all,

I have done a search, i found no answer thus far. Where the hell can i get a right (passenger) rear ebrake cable replacement? Due to a previous owners repair, the cable sat across the exhaust long enough to melt right through the casing and the cable snapped. i have 4 wheel disk brakes. no parts stores near me carry them (napa, autozone, advanced, carquest, etc) and the gm dealers don't have them due to the age. I need one that is unmodified so that i can pass both visual and functional inspection (i love NY). plus, it would be handy to have working correctly. I greatly appreciate the help

thanks,
Jason

Humm, you should be able to purchase them at any of the above mentioned stores. Moments ago, I went to PartsAmerica, used my 85 as an example and came up with 26 hits for brake cables (some drum no doubt).

Re: emergency brake cable??

I've got one ordered from NAPA for a 82 disc rear axle (part # 93221), but they had to order direct from Raybestos as none of their warehouses had one. Checked status today and was told that it hasn't come back as zero, so I'm still hopeful.

Re: emergency brake cable??

well, guess i feel like an ***. did a search a few months ago and found nothing.. everyone was out of stock and unable to get one for my car... even the brake/muffler shop i was having do the inspection couldn't get one. i actually ended up putting her away for the end of the season because nobody could get me one, so i couldn't get a new inspection. apparently things have changed. sorry to waste space on the board guys

Re: emergency brake cable??

Sorry if I made you feel bad, that wasn't the intent. I just found myself in a similar situation and thought I'd try to help out with what I found. BTW, that cable arrived today. To me, it appears a bit long, but I won't know that for sure until I get the rear end under the car. On both cables though, the exposed wire is the same length, so that appears to be a good thing.
