After sitting for about 6 years mine didn't want to work anymore. On jack stands, they couldn't hold the rear wheels from spinning in drive at fast idle. I'm rebuilding them now (actually waiting for the paint to dry before reassembly) to see if they will work again. The pistons were pretty well stuck in the bore seal, but no corrosion. 90PSI could barely push them out.

Rebuild kits are like $11.50 each, but there's allot of pieces in the kit. The emergency brake feature wins a Rube Goldberg award in my book. The whole thing is a pretty complex design for a single piston POS caliper that doesn't work as good as the cast iron one up front.

Don't forget the hoses, they seem to be a common source of problems with these cars.

Re: pbr,s not working

I have been looking for hoses for mine as well. Advanced has several brands
and numerous part numbers. They have Tru Torque, Bendix, and Raybestos
and many different numbers. Which ones are a good deal for the rear disc of
a 89 Camaro? Are the left and right actually different?
Thanks

I bought my hoses thru o'reilly, but they should be available thru any supplier. Napa actually had lower prices, but they didn't have them in stock.

Yes, the left and right hoses have different part numbers. Don't forget that there is a center hose for the rear too.

They are different. Check the following link for pics and part numbers. Also check the info on "free travel":
