1LE & C5 upgrades

Im looking to upgrade my stock fronts to a 13" rotor. I know the c5 kit is the way to go. Here's my problem. Many companies are selling a c5 upgrade kit using modified stock spindles. Putting all that extra mass (rotors, wheel & tire) on stock bearings. Now the factory 1LE uses larger bearings, correct? Is there any way to get the c5 13" rotor/caliper set up on a 1LE spindle, so I have loose larger bearings.
Any thoughts?

The ID of the bearings for the 1LE setup is the same as the ID of the bearings for the Saginaw setup. All you have to do to "modify" regular spindles to accept the 1LE calipers, is cut off 2 ears, and drill & tap 2 holes. No change to the bearing area.

Though the ID is the same, there is a size difference. Check PartsAmerica, for exampe, for more info.

Re: 1LE & C5 upgrades

Right: OD is different for at least one of the 2 bearings; but the ID (the spindle side) is the same.

So, "all that extra mass", is not an issue.

So if i understand correctly, the only difference in the spindle is the mounting location for the caliper. The actual machined portion of the spindle is the same as the stock spindle.

Re: 1LE & C5 upgrades

At parts store, when i asked for wheel bearings they asked if it was for the perfromance package. they had performance inner & outer. 1992 RS V-8 all had same handling package. what would the performance bearing be? i got the reg. federal mougol ones. size difference? for larger rotor/spindle?

If you have dual piston alum calipers, you have the performance package. Here's what the look like:
