Yesterday I replaced both rotors, pads, wheel bearings, and seals on the front brakes. Was driving today and when coming to a stop I noticed some smoke coming up from the front drivers side wheel. Pulled over and didn't see anything out of the norm, but there was a weird odor that Ive never smelled before. It hasn't smoked since, and I'm wondering what you guys think this could of been? I wiped down both rotors with brake cleaner, but maybe I missed some?

 

New pads sometimes do that; the binder resin material in the pad is what causes it. If it's that, it should quit after a day or 2. If it keeps up, you probably need the rubber hose on that side; what those do, is they rust on the inside, and gradually close off like hardened arteries, until they reach a point where the fluid gets forced in by using the pedal, but can't get back out, and holds the piston applied, making the brake drag 100% of the time which of course creates A BUNCH of heat. If you have that going on, replace all the hoses, because the others will be pretty much in the same condition, and will fail the same way soon. I'd suggest the Earl's stainless-braided ones.

 

This is what happened to me yesterday. I had new pads and caliper on my passenger side since I assumed the old one was junk and was seizing up. Turns out the brake line was bad and caused it to clamp down real bad and start a smoke show. Replaced the brake line and it works great now.

It hasn't done it since, so I'm pretty sure it was just some left over material. I'm thinking about just going ahead and replacing the lines anyway since it could hurt to. Sofakingdom do you happen to have the part number for the Earl's stainless-braided ones? If not I'll look for it tonight.

Is that for front and back? Includes all 5 lines? If so, I feel dumb for buying new rubber hoses, they cost somewhere close to $75. I coulda had braided for a few dollars more, crap.

 

Each of those is the full set; so the 2nd one is the 5 lines for the PBR system.

Mine constantly pulled to one side, but just smoked bad once. It was after some hard braking and the caliper grabbed hold pretty good. I replaced the line an hour after that happened and no more problems.
