i just picked up a 91 camaro and the top mount 3rd brake light doesnt seem to be working. i opened it up and the bulb is still good as i can tell. where do i start to hunt down the problem?

heard it was common?

 

What happens is that the socket melts & deforms. Had the same problem, no 3rd light, so replaced the bulb. Still no light, and the original bulb was still good.

What I ended up doing was to bend the pins on the bulb (if I remember this correctly, it has been a while). And inserting the bulb so that contact was made. Moved the bulb & pins around until it worked.

thanks! the bulb wasnt making good contact with the connector ..anyone modified this to make a different size bulb work? led maybe?

 

I got a LED replacement. Cheaper than buying a replacement.



Just order the update kit, you can reuse your current housing. I even put my the red lens back in, so it looks stock.

I'd also like to try to get the stock one to work first, if bending the pins on the pulb etc doesnt work, where do the wires lead to? i see they run above the headliner in my car...
