Cost of LS1 Swap?

How much does it cost to swap the front and rear to the LS1 brakes? I'm talking rotors, calipers, backing plates, pads, braided lines... everything. Are any special tools needed? Could I rent them from autozone or some place if I don't have them?.. How much does that usually cost?

Re: Cost of LS1 Swap?

The front cost me $300 for the needed hubs, brackets, braided front hoses, banjo bolts from BigBrakes.com. Then I bought the calipers, rotors and pads thru the shop I work at, for a total investment of $625.00. I could have saved some money going with regular rotors, but went with zinc coated, drilled & slotted instead.
Note that I also modded the front spindles myself, although it is not a "simple" task, especially if you are considering borrwing tools from Auto Zone, you may want to buy the already modded splindles for the extra $75(After sending your good cores in). I also had to come up with some grommets to use the existing brackets for braided brake line holders, to avoid trouble down the road.

Modding the spindles and coming up with a suitable bracket mods for the braided lines was the only complicated part. So buying the correct parts for those makes it a bolt in job....IF you own a pickle fork for the ball joints and a fllor jack to support the front arms while the struts are unbolted?

Hope this helps.

Re: Cost of LS1 Swap?

So it is about $650 for the front, but how much does the rear cost? Another 650?

Re: Cost of LS1 Swap?

depends on what you do with the rear.

if you buy a complete 4th gen axle, you get the brakes and the axle, bolt in deal for around 3 bills.

or if you want to mod the axle you have now, the rear brake setup, used costs about 150-200bux on ebay. I know you can mod a drum axle pretty easy, i did it to my old 10 bolt, i don't know what you need to do to a disc rear.

Re: Cost of LS1 Swap?

Ya, I agree, the best way for the rear, is a swap of the entire axle. If yours is all tweaked, with new gears and posi, etc. then you would consider the adapters for the rear, otherwise, swap it all out.

Cheaper.

A 4th gen rear end would allow you to run the Z06 wheels, without the spacers I use on mine, LOL....but once I find a good 4th gen rear end with some 3:42 or shorter gears, the spacers will be on ebay, !

Re: Cost of LS1 Swap?

Cost will depend on what you need, where you get them, and what amount of work you can do yourself. You do know the LS1s are not a bolt on deal, right? You will need to have modified spindles, hubs, and adapter brackets along with all the brake parts. Rears will require either a disc rearend or a drum rear with modified axle flanges to install them right. There are minor tweaks to the rear axle lines and e-brake cable mods that need to be done to get them to install and work right as well. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have, I've done a few setups on here so I can help you understand your needs.

Thanks!
