{ED!!!}How did yall install the spring back onto a PBR?

I disassembled my PBRs so they could be powder coated and resealed. Now Im trying to figure out how to put the e-brake spring (the big one) back into the bracket. Every zip tie Ive tried breaks, and the ones that do hold it are too thick so I cant slip the spring onto the bracket. Ive got some stainless steel wire that could hold it, but I cant get it in a vise. Because of how the arms on the spring are made, the spring wants to rotate under pressure. Any advice?

I'm at work but will be home shortly, and I'll post up a short how-to with some pics to walk you through it.

OK, here ya go. The springs are identical but will install a bit differently. I strongly recommend wearing gloves while working with the springs as they can pinch you very quickly.

To get the springs out, pry up on the end part of the spring with a standard screwdriver.

Pull the spring up and out with your finger.

Rotate the spring and pull it out. Now you can have access to that lower PBR caliper bolt that's so freaking hard to get to.

To reinstall, lay the caliper down and install the spring, then rotate down as shown.

Push down slightly on the spring to get the curved tip of the spring to center itself over the e-brake lever.

Next, grab the short flat part of the spring with a pair of wide tip flat nose pliers and, holding the caliper with your left hand, rotate the tip of the spring counterclockwise to move the spring down the lever with the pliers in your right hand.

Slide your left hand down and push the spring down onto the lever and into the spring slot, use the pliers a bit if you have to.

Excellent Ed!! Thanks man, I thought that it would be similar to that, I just couldnt get the spring to stay in the right position (kept wanting to pop out). Ill have to give that way a shot, looks easier than the way I was doing with the zipties. Thanks again man!!

Other side, same but different.

Reinstall the spring in much the same way but you'll have more spring to hold onto on this side. Center the spring over the lever.

Grab the straight part with the pliers and rotate clockwise. Hold the caliper in your left hand and rotate the spring with the pliers in your right.

Slide your hand down onto the spring coil and press down toward the lever, using pliers if you need to, and move the spring end into the slot on the lever. Done.

Re: {ED!!!}How did yall install the spring back onto a PBR?

uh oh, I may have a problem. When I was disassembling, I specifically kept all the parts separate for each side. However, I noticed that both of the springs were the exact same. Could this cause a problem? I remember I bought one of the springs off of you a long time ago, and I have since installed it and it doesn't seem to cause any problems. Just wanted to see if there was any technical issues I could run into later down the road.

Thanks again!

No, the springs are identical. You're fine.
