Painting Calipers

Since I am going to be replacing pads today, I figured I might as well clean and paint the calipers. I've got some of that Silver Bullet laying around, and was wondering if it'll hold up on brakes. It says "service temperature range of 314*F continuous, and can tolerate temperature spikes of up to 700*F for up to 24 hour periods." How hot does it get in there?

Re: Painting Calipers

I usually paint my calipers/ drums with paint designed for high heat situations. The dupi-color brake paint I use says it stands up to spikes of 500** Your paint seems to be on the border I could see brakes getting to 314*+ in highway stop and go traffic on a hot day.But Your brakes should not get that hot for long* unless your track timing. I say it's up to you, but I like to use the right paint for the right job just so I know I won't have issues. Just my two Cents

Re: Painting Calipers

Put one good thin coat on to get the color you want then put some high temp spary paint clearcoat or duplicolor suv spray paint clearcoat over it. Maybe 1 or 2 light coats. The clear will help resist chemicals better and hopefully make it easier to clean off brake dust. Too thick or too many coats isn't good and the clear makes a difference. This is what i've found by painting engine bay parts anyways. This advice should help with the temperature issue but still might want to go with a high temp paint.

I have had it on my suburban's calipers for about a year now its doing fine. I used like 4 or 5 coats.
