1le imitation brakes
so i have been doing my research like any good f-body owner should and have discovered that 1le brakes are nothing more than b-body brakes... ie, from a caprice classic.
now, my brakes are in a sad state of needing new pads.
around here, caprice classics are pretty common in junkyards.
i was wondering if i could pick up a set of caprice classic calipers, rotors and mounting crap (sorry, cant remember the term off the top of my head for the thing the caliper mounts to) and give myself 1le brakes?
or is there more to it than this???

The 1LE rotor is based on a modified B-body rotor, and the 1LE caliper is based on the Y-body caliper, but parts aren't interchangeable between the applications. If you wanted 1LE breaks, you'd have to do a regular 1LE swap. These days one of the Corvette brake swaps is probably a better option.

i am just looking for a junkyard fix to having terrible brakes to begin with...
y-body is what? corvette?
what cars would i need to steal parts off of to get an equivalent system to the 1le upgrade?
i find it hard to believe GM made anything from scratch as an upgrade for the already old f-body platform.
this leads me to believe that there is a way to get better brakes on a camaro for about 1/5 of the price of the baer system, or ordering GM parts...

If there was a way, it would have already been discovered sometime in the last 26 years since the first car rolled off the assembly line. So far what the community has come up with are the 1LE swap, and the Corvette swaps.

Re: 1le imitation brakes
so for the corvette swap, i simply pull all the brake equipment off a corvette?
what is wrong with the b-body calipers anyway?
they should fit the b-body bracket just fine and the bracket iirc will fit with the camaro spindle.
does anyone know if the camaro spindle and b-body spindle are interchangable?

You could get some used Corvette equipment, but still requires some modification and some additional parts to adapt things.
B-bodies have the same style cast-iron Delco/Moraine calipers that you've got now. The front suspensions on the B-body and the F-body are entirely different, so the spindles aren't even similar.

LS1 swap is probably the best "junkyard" swap available, since the only part you really need that isn't a junkyard part is the caliper bracket.
