I have an 89 camaro w/ rear drums and my ebrake hasn't been working on the driver's side since I've had the car. I took it all apart and might have found the culprit but I'm not sure and I don't want to take the other side off unless I have to so I have a simple question of "does this look right?"
the cables pull when I pull the ebrake but the arm in the picture is the part in question. is that supposed to be bent like that? I thought it was supposed to be strait.

 

It is tweaked a little bit, but not bad enough that it wouldn't work.
Only reason I can think that it wouldn't work is that the bent part is catching on something and fetching up.

 

ok, if thats not right I'm gonna put a torch on it so I can bend it back and see if that helps things.

 

took other side drum off and found that i'm missing the bar that goes between the shoes. where can I get it? I know carquest doesn't have it.

 

A rebuild kit should have the part you need in it.

do you know a parts store that has a rebuild kit w/ one? like I said carquest doesn't have it in their kit or individually. how much do these kits usually cost, just so I have a general idea.

 

This same rear brake setup is used on most all GM rear-drive vehicles from about 78-up, so it should be relatively easy to find a bar (or two) in a salvage yard. A rear-drive Cutlass, Grand Prix, Malibu, Regal, S-truck, Caprice/Impala with rear drums will work.
