Brake Squeak
I tried searching, but I didn't find anything super useful on these forums.
Anyway, recently my brakes started squeaking, or squealing, or some sort of high pitched metallic noise. It only happens when the brakes aren't in use. The minute I apply any pressure tot he brake pedal, the noise goes away. Now, I did some online research and found that GM pads make a similar noise when the pad is wearing down. I also found out that sometimes brake whine is normal, especially in the cold weather like now.
So, should I worry about replacing my pads or what?
Also, I'm not sure where to post this, but it seems like my car has been getting slightly worse fuel economy recently. The oil is fine, the tires are pumped and all that jazz. It just randomly started sucking gas like crazy. Any help?

Re: Brake Squeak
As far as the brakes go, check the pads and see if they are getting worn down or if they have started to crystalize. Might be a good time to just go ahead and get some new pads. My Trans Am is doing the exact same thing, but I haven't changed the pads since I bought the car almost a year ago, so I'm going to go ahead and swap my pads anyways.
As far as your fuel problem goes, are you running a carb? If so, try cleaning it a little and stay off the pedal. lol. I'm also noticing a difference in my mpg, so I'll be reading this thread to see other's replies. Mine isn't bad for a 4barrel, but it is worse than it used to be. I'm more concerned about my 91rs tbi that has started sucking gas like my Trans Am... but then again it has sat for about 3 months and I just got it in 100% running order and filled it up... maybe it will start getting better mileage as it gets used to being run again.
Sorry for the rambling, but I hope this helps.
