ebmiller's 13" Wilwood kits
Has anybody used these? How are they.
I'm interested in the 13" kit with 4 piston FSL calipers. This kit will fit 16" IROC wheels which is what I have.
Ebmiller has two kits like this, one is $1000 and the other is $1525. I emailed him about what the differences are but just curious if anyone knows. It looks like the $1525 kit has two piece rotors and the $1000 kit has 1 piece rotors. I'm not sure if there are any other differences.
Does anybody know the FSL pad area vs stock J65 front brakes?
Any idea how these will perform compared to 1LE or C4HD brakes?
Any idea how these will perform compared to the Baer tack kit?
Any other ideas for < $1300?
Thanks,

Re: ebmiller's 13" Wilwood kits
I just recently bought the kit from Ed ($1000 kit using C4 HD Rotors). Im gonna be selling the brackets, the hubs with upgraded A.R.P studs and slightly used 13" slotted and zinc coated rotors that I bought from him. You'd would just need to buy the calipers, brake lines and modify your spindles slightly. I believe those parts will cost around $500 - $520 USD if you buy them seperately. I'll save you some money if your interested in them.
Im gonna be making a set of custom aluminum hubs and I just bought the Wilwood 2 piece rotor and hat set up. So I dont need these parts anymore.

So the $1000 kit uses C4 HD rotors? Good info, thanks.
I first need to decide if I even want these brakes. I still haven't heard anyones opinion on how they perform.

Re: ebmiller's 13" Wilwood kits
Well I currently have them on my car and the stopping power is just crazy. I dont think any factory caliper can compete with these. You can really feel the stifness through the pedal. I also have braided lines through out the car and using Castrol SRF brake fluid. These are the FSL4 with 1.75 pistons. I running the E compound pads and those are even to much for the street. I can literaly drag the front wheels down the street with my left foot on the brake.

Sounds exactly like what I want. I'm assuming you can get any piston size from Ebmiller?

Re: ebmiller's 13" Wilwood kits
You could get them through him. If he doesnt have them in stock you could always order them your self through Jegs or Summit. I just ordered my new Wilwood rotors through Summit. Ed (Eb Miller) is a pretty busy guy and usually takes awhile to get back to you. I needed the new ones a.s.a.p and couldnt really wait around for him to get back to me.
These are the part #'s for the same calipers: 1.75" pistons for 1.1" wide rotor
120-7476-L
120-7476-R
About $330 for the front pair plus shipping looks like. Im not sure what Ed price is on them but it's probably about the same.

FSL pad area and info for BP-10 "Smart" pad, similar to a Hawk HPS:

The 4 piston will outperform the C4 caliper by a wide margin, 4 pistons and a stronger caliper will make all the difference.
The C4/1LE/Baer kit all use the same basic two piston caliper design.
Marco, I'll give you a call sometime this week and work with you on the parts if you still have them.

Re: ebmiller's 13" Wilwood kits
Ed,
Thanks for the info. Let me ask you a few more questions. Do you have any solutions for 1.25" thick rotors and/or 6 piston calipers that will fit behind 16" IROC wheels?
I assume the rotor you use in the wilwood kit is the 13x1.1" C4HD rotor? So this kit will push out my front wheels .5" ? Doesn't that make the car look goofy? Maybe not.
Finally, I'd like to go with the DBA 4000 series slotted rotors. Can you provide pricing on the kit with these rotors?
Does this kit use the J65, 1LE, or some other brake lines?
Thanks

Ed or anyone else, can you answer the above questions. I am getting pretty close to ordering this setup and just want to make sure I'm aware of all of my options.
Thanks.
Thanks.

That is the rotor but I use a standard hub on that setup so it only pushes the wheel out .300" or so, thickness of the rotor hat.
DBA: Yes I can, no problem.
Lines will depend on the caliper used, Wilwoods don't use banjos.

In case anyone cares, I ended up getting the Wilwood kit from Ed.
Wilwood 4 piston FSL calipers
DBA 4000 series slotted C4HD rotors
Goodridge stainless steel brake lines
ATE Super Blue fluid
Plus the rest of Ed's goodies
I don't have the kit yet, but will update when I get it from Ed. Looking forward to getting them.

Re: ebmiller's 13" Wilwood kits
I need help getting this 13" wilwood kit. I hear of all the time and correspondance problems with Ed so I do not want to get in that loop. Can anyone help me out in putting a kit together? I want to run the 13" rotors with wilwood calipers. What do I need to help make this work?

Re: ebmiller's 13" Wilwood kits
The two problem areas are the brake lines and the adapter brackets. Wilwood calipers doe not use banjo bolts, so stock lines will not work. You will have to get some custom made. Also you need the caliper adapter bracket. It could be a lot of work measuring that up and getting it made. You could buy just those parts from Ed, then source calipers, rotors, hubs, spindle elsewhere.

Also if you want the car to still look stock just get a second set of rear rims. They have 3/10s of an inch more backspace and less offset. So if you run 4 rear rims with the big brake kit the car looks stock. That's what I did on my 88 and what I'm going to do on my 91. I'm also about to pull the trigger on the 13" wilwood kit but I haven't decided about rotors yet so for now I'm going to just the the hubs and bracket for my racecraft spindles so my car can go to paint. I'll be watchin this thread to see how your install goes

Re: ebmiller's 13" Wilwood kits
The brakes were delivered sept 4th. Ed and I had a miscommunication with address, as I am in the middle of a move.
This setup looks killer. Its hard to show how big these calipers are in pictures.
Most everything looks really good. However when I mocked up the one side, I noticed some resistance when I try to turn the rotor. For half the rotation the rotor spins freely, for the other half of rotation I feel resistance. Any ideas what this could be? It really doesn't feel right. It didn't do this until I mounted the caliper. I know the bearings spin freely. I'll have to mock up the other side and see if I have any issues.

Pop the bearing dust cap off of that side and see if that's it. If I didn't get the cotter pin cleared it may rub.
Glad to know they got there safely, I did make an error in delivery but I'm glad to know all is well. I LOVE your rotor choice, that setup will serve you well. Glad to help out.

I have the same kit from Ed and I had a similar problem when I first bolted everything together, because I had to adjust the shims on one side of the caliper. My car won't make it out for a while some I'm very interested to see how your brake perform.
