What prop valve do I need?

I am swapping a 9 bolt with discs for a 10 bolt that had drums. A friend has a proportioning valve but he isn't sure if it came out of a car with rear discs or not.

How can I tell the two apart? Is there a casting number I can go by in order to make sure I'm getting the correct prop valve?

The rear end I'm putting in is out of an 89 Pontiac. It's going into an 87 Camaro.

Thanks!

Differences are internal, nothing on the outside will verify which is which.
