i got the russell stainless braided brake line kit for my 87formula 350 with 4 wheel disks. Ended up snapping the rear distribution line when pulling the rear out. i called russell and they dont sell a replacement line, they want 50$ for a custom line built. I want to get a universal line to work but im all retarded on the stock GM fittings. and getting it to work. anyone know how to make a universal line work? i would like braided stainless line but if i have to i will say screw it and go with a stock replacement rubber line and somehow get the fittings to work.
what i want is a tube flare nut to slide over the 1/4" brake line to the rear, have that nut screw into the stainless braided line, the stainless braided line has a Tee block on the end which gets mounted on the rear. this will supply both calipers with fluid, i would like to use off the shelf fittings for the lines going to the calipers. since i will be running 3/16" stainless lines to each caliper then i would be using assorted 3/16' tube flare fittings.
any ideas?

You should be able to to find what you need here.

Did you call summit tech they may have the line in their own brand.
84 and up is metric. Hard lines you can get at any GOOD auto supply store.

awsome site btw... canada tho... wonder how much shipping would be
i was on the phone with summit and russell, summit said to find out the GM/russell fitting sizes and maybe they could use a universal line with fittings. my problem is that im not sure on the fittings. i kno GMs are in mm. i already bent custom stainless brake lines on the rear that i got from summit a while back for my other totalled ford 8.8 rear. my issue is this is a new ford 8.8 rear outa a grand marquis so im using there rear calipers. i would love to use a cheap summit brand braided brake line. the russell was 11" long, but a 10" would work fine.

OK I understand. The first time(1995) I did this I went to a GM dealer parts dept., they printed everything out so I could see everything and it had the sizes on it. They also told me which local parts store had the already madeup hard lines. The only thing different I did was change Right side line from solid(hard) all the way to caliper to solid and braided line to caliper. If the dealer does not give you length just use a string or a piece of solid wire to measure length of line. Use old line (unless you are doing like I did then attach braided line first then measure) and shape new line(always go longer with hard line). I put a 13/16 spark plug socket in a vice and slowly bend the curves around it, to match old lines. Buy one extra line, I made a mess of the first one I did. Make sure you use a 3 sided open end wrenchs, my sizes were 10mm, 12mm and 8mm. I heat the flair nut with map gas (NO LONGER THAN 1 MIN.)A very low flame. Then through water on it, put wrench on nut and hit with very small object(HANDLE OF 3/8 RATCH WRENCH) not hard. It should come apart, if not do it again they always come apart this way TAKE YOUR TIME. I know this is a pain but changing the lines is a help with our brakes. I converted to C5 brakes after I redid the whole stock system. Now I'm happy with my brakeing system.
As for the braided lines I also used russell lines. You may have to install a new stock one (junction) for now. I found a set on craigs list for $30.00.
or just make one up. If you have to buy a whole set bet you could sell the other hoses here in a snap and get most of your money back. Good luck

i guess my problem is getting a braided line to fit the stock 1/4 hard line fitting. from what i was told it is a 12mmx1.0. the fittings on the stock Tblock on the rear are 10mm x 1.0. this doesnt really help me bc i would convert to regular 3/16" inverted flare fittings for the T block. this would require a Tblock with female thread 3/16" openings and a 12mm x1.0 female thread straight connector to connect to the hard line on the body. then it would all go back together smoothly.
but there is not 12mmx1.0 fitting. so basically i have to go with a russell hose or throw a new stock rubber hose on, but i still run into the problem of not having the stock 10mmx1.0 fittings for the Tblock. so id rather convert my stock hard line fitting to a normal inverted flare tube fitting and then run a standard -4an line with a 3/16" male thread fitting for the Tblock. i have a couple of the brass 3/16" Tee blocks, i used one on the front brakes since im running an adjustable proportioning valve for my rear brakes and did away with the stock one.

Are you sure that the rear center line is from an 87. The only thing I found in my russells hoses that matches what you are saying is a center hose from 98-02 bird w/out traction control. The main fitting that connects to this hose is also larger and the hard line is smaller, the line from center to caliper hose. That is from kit #692280. The one for 84-88 birds is #692360 that is a direct swap. I just tried it, off the shelf steel lines from center block to hose for caliper. .
yes, this was the kit i beleive
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RUS-692360/
it only came with 3 hoses. 2 front hoses and the one rear hose thats the center line. that comes off the stock hard line and goes to the rear diff. the center hose has a Teeblock on the end.

That is right. The hard lines connect to center teeblock then to brake line hose that connects to caliper. That kit is 2 rear hoses and 1 center (teeblock) hose. If you broke the teeblock hose just replace it with a OEM line $15.00 get 2 new hard lines connect to new russell lines and connect to calipers. You can then look for a replacement braided for the center hose. I think the hard lines are about $6.00 each. At least you are up and running. On my 84 TA the factory setup is only 1 hose on 1 caliper the other is hard lined to teeblock. But when the conversion is done there is brake hose to each caliper. DON,T FOOL AROUND WITH PATCHED UP BRAKES DO IT RIGHT. THE LIFE YOU SAVE MAY BE YOUR OWN AND THE OTHERS AROUND YOU!!!!!!!!
where did u find hard lines for 6" with the correct 10mmx1.0 fittings on the tee block?
i think im just gona go with the rubber stock line. cant be that huge of a diff esp for the rear brake setup i doubt the flex would matter that much. im also running the stock ford caliper rubber lines so having a braided center rear line wouldnt matter much bc the caliper rubber lines would flex enough. so mysetup will go rear hard line to stock rubber line with distributer block, connected to that are hard line into the rubber caliper lines. that should take care of it.
so where did u get the hard line with the correct fittings? otherwise im going to have to order new stock fittings to connect into the Teeblock and then change the other fittings out for the stock ford fittings to connect into the ford rubber caliper lines.

advance auto parts
thats where u got the hard lines with the fittings on it already? i kno i can get the rubber line from either autozone or advance auto. wat i really need are the 10mm x 1.0 fittings that connect into the rubber line tee block. id rather not order from that place in canada obviously if i can get it from here. i asked a parts guy a while back and he couldnt get them and this guy can get almost anything

They got the rubber teeline for me. When I picked up the hose showed the guy what I wanted, he went in the back and fit the hard lines to the tee and the rubber hoses. I had the old hard lines with me(for length). He also got right size banjo bolts and washers. I had to bend the hard lines to match old ones. When I switched to c5 brakes I just removed rubber hoses and installed the braided lines.

I have a rear line left over from some kit I bought once. Might be the one you need.
It's not a POS Russell POS POS though; I would NEVER stoop to that level. I value my life too highly.

Its the center rear line that connects to the line in rear Axel t fitting. Its the wrong size fitting. Why is Russell a pos?

Q: If an elephant lays a pile of plop on your doorstep, why is that a POS?
A: It just IS.
Mostly, because that company makes GARBAGE. Their products fail catastrophically suddenly without warning. Not something most of us are willing to tolerate in brake parts. I will not let one of their POSs anywhere near my car, in case it somehow might attach itself without my noticing.
Yeah I know which line it is you're talking about. It's often a lot like the one in the pic, which is cryptically and confusingly labeled "center rear". That look anything like what you need?

Is that one standard or metric and how can I tell?

take the flex T line out with steel a line that goes to caliper and bring to auto parts store. They will give you a connector to mate the T to lines. Did your kit come with 2 SS flex lines for calipers. My factory only had 1 flex line, so I changed all the solid steel lines. That is also another option. From T new steel that connect to new caliper lines.

The LF, RF, and RR have rubber flex lines the center rear flex line is rubber. The LR caliper is a hard line.

Iunno... part # maybe? It's been a decade or 2 since I bought it so I don't recall for sure. I kinda think I bought this particular kist for my 83 though, which is why I didn't use that line... the car has about a 91 or 92 rear in it... so I kinda think it's prolly for 83how can I tell?

82 and some 83 have s.a.e all others are metric. 91 or 92 is metric.

Well even with the center rear line not installed. the KARR still stops better than before and the brake pedal feels like a modern car pedal.

The Russell lines are NOTORIOUS for coming apart at the crimps. Doesn't seem to have much to do with installation.

If you use the one make for your car? I'm talking about the flex T line, the one that connects to the line from prop valve the runs to the back. Any good auto parts store has fittings that screw into it and will (male sae to female metric) and run new steel (metric) lines over to each caliper. Attach SS flex lines (from C5 vette) to caliper. Or you can cut the flair off the steel lines. Buy a small per made metric line cut it. Use the metric ends, reflair the line and attach the C5 caliper flex line to steel line. My 84 was metric so I just droped in all C5 stuff. You can also cut the steel line from the front and put a metric end, reflair and use all C5 stuff (T flex ) and all new metric lines. Mine was all metric so it was simple. I just did a install for a local guy and ran into the sae to metric change stuff. He supplied the SS lines, if memory serves me he said the SS T line was from a 4 gen. F-body. So I just cut the front steel line put the metric end on it and all new metric steel lines from the new SS T to calipers SS flex lines.

If so, iunno; I'd have to go look for it. I think I know where to put my hands on it but I'm sure you know how that goes.

Umm...,,,, ... YEAH...yes that the T line.
It's the one I DIDN'T put on my 83 and took a pic of about 6 or 8 years ago or so, and is probably still hanging around in my garage somewhere.
