Help with pad & rotor install!
Help with pad & rotor install!
1991 Z28, 350 TPI, 4 wheel disk brakes.
So I got a brand new pair or rear rotors and pads for the car and started to replace the old stuff today. After fighting with it for a good while trying to figure out how to get the caliper off the rotor I finally got the new rotors on.
Problem:
I can't compress the piston in the caliper enough for the caliper to fit over the pads without the breaks being fully engaged with no travel to be had. I used a giant C-Clamp to compress it all the way and it woulden't go any further.
Solution:
Maybe it's the brake fluid holding the piston out, in turn not letting the piston compress fully?
I didn't have any brake fluid at the time to do a bleed and check it out then.
Any answers guys? I'm about ready to set fire to the jaguar-esk car...Seriously...nothing works the first time on this thing...

Sitting in the same EXACT spot RIGHT NOW with a 1992 Z28. What the hell???
Fronts are easy. Can't compress the rear enough to go over the rotor.

Re: Help with pad & rotor install!
yea big thanks man. I have to disagree though, this car requires specialized gm tools to do anything... and the manuals aren't exactly helpful. I do love it though..
