c5 abutment pin and boot installation question

Transmission: 700-R4
c5 abutment pin and boot installation question
I am in the middle of a c5 brake upgrade and don't know exactly how to install the abutment pins that the calipers bolt to...Do I install the boot onto the abutment bracket, and then stick the pins through the boot? Is the boot the only thing holding the pins in place?
