Brake Issues On 88 IROC
Brake Issues On 88 IROC
Hi. I read every post in the Brake Board and didn't find an answer so I'm posting a new question.
My friend bought an 88 IROC. The car had been sitting for a while and the previous owner said the brakes didn't work too well. So he replaced all 4 calipers, had all 4 rotors turned and put all new pads on. We flushed the brake fluid and did the gravity brake bleed. We left the bleeder screws open for a long time while doing other things. Topped off the reservoir and figured we were done.
Took it for a test drive and at first thought things were ok. But when really stomping on the pedal the car does not want to stop. Took the car back home and bled the brakes the old fasioned way with one guy pumping up the brakes with the car running while the other guy opens the bleed screw.
Started on the one furthest from the master cylinder and worked our way around to the front drivers side. When I was at the front drivers side I could see the reservoir. I noticed when he was pumping the brakes there was a lot of activity in the rear reservoir. Looked like air bubbles but maybe it's just fluid moving around.
But should there be anything going on in there? Maybe the master cylinder is bad? Internal bleeding?
The parking brake doesn't work at all. I've read all the posts about adjusting the thing. So I'll try what I read and hope for the best.

What kind of pads did you use?
If you have air in the system if will feel spongy.
A booster leak or failure is the most likely cause of your problem.
