C5 Brake Upgrade

I know this topic has been discussed plenty of times but I found a website that has posted the PN of whats needed. My only question is that this topic doesn't mention the installation so i was curious if you still need to custom modify anything?

Re: C5 Brake Upgrade

its like any other brake upgrade for a 3rd gen, you need to modify the spindle, and use the custom hubs and brackets to mount the rotor and caliper

that article is not about a c5t upgrade, they are using stock type rotors and those crappy overprices tiny 2 piston ssbc calipers that bolt on in place of the factory iron caliper. A total waste of money, but no spindle mod needed.

I have that issue! Thats what I based mine from. You have to cut the ears from the spindle and redrill the dust shield bolt holes out to a larger size for the adapter brackets. OR you can go to flynbye.com and buy the spindle and brackets already done from ed miller(eb miller on here) for a good price. Great brakes for our cars!!

Re: C5 Brake Upgrade

Here is another option, my friends, since Eb is so busy now a days: www.bigbrakeupgrade.com This is where I sent my spindles to get moded for my C5/06'GTO front brake upgrade. The work done is flawless and at a good price. He replies quickly, too.

Re: C5 Brake Upgrade

Are the modifications to the spindle to convert to LS1 brakes the same mods to convert to C5 brakes? looks like Ed's brackets for the LS1 calipers and C5 calipers are different? If it has anything to do with it...

I assume the spindle modification is the same (can't imagine how the modification would be different) for all the above and only the brackets are different.

Re: C5 Brake Upgrade

Thought the difference between moding for LS1 spindles and C5's you had to remove the steering stop for LS1 but leave it in for the C5's

There is no stop on the spindle, but there is on the a-arm. A-arms for 15- and 16-inch wheels have different stops, BTW.

When I did my first C5 setup I went here.
www.LukeSkaff.com
Shows where and how to do mods. You can do them on the car. I start with a drill 1/2 the finish size, them finish with correct size.

that is an excellent site to use but what i dont get is why are the brackets different for LS1 and C5 caliper mounts to spindle on that site? look at the PDF for the LS1 bracket then look at the PDF for the C5, shouldnt they be the same? i also noticed on flynbye the brackets are the same unless hes using a stock picture for the C5 which happens to be the LS1 bracket.....

Re: C5 Brake Upgrade

NO LS1 rotors are 1 inch smaller then C5. So the bracket locates the caliper abutment bracket in right position for setup you are using.
