Parking Brake Handles and Cables

So I went to the junkyard recently and found out there are 2 different brake / parking brake handles. my z28 has the dual gear one. what would be the issue if i switched to the single gear style and swapped the parking brake cable with it?

IIRC, 82-89 was the first design, which required a tunnel adjuster. The second design, 90+ didn't have the tunnel adjuster because the parking brakes were self-adjusting.* I don't think the two designs are compatible.

*Apparently, some later cars were equipped with the adjuster. I'd check your car to be certain.
