HELP Breaks went out :(
So on my way home today from work i tried breaking and noticed my pedal seemed really loose and spongy.
If i press my pedal once its fine, if i press it twice it sinks in a little more than the first time, and by the 4th time i press it, it sinks to the floor but it comes to a stop, although a very late one.
Concerned i pulled over and checked my fluid level, it was good. So i had to drive home with my emergency break, terrified lol.
So tomorrow im gonna hitch a ride to work and when i get home i plan on doing some inspecting. I need help, how can i determine if my master cylinder went bad? or the brake booster?
What else can it be? I just bought my car not long ago and i know one of the front rotors was warped.. but i mean i dont think that a warped rotor or bad pad can change so drastically like that, i drove to work fine.. or am i wrong?
I havent got to updating the whole brake system on my car yet, ive been working on it little by little. 2 weeks ago i switched my brake shoes for the rear drums but i have yet to change the pads for the front.
To me though it feels like some sort of air leak or something, what steps can i take to fix this? i cant drive my car til i do.

Re: HELP Breaks went out :(
how long have you been driving the car for? i would recommend checking the lines for cracks and try to bleed the system, but sounds like your master cylinder may need replacing

Well the car sat for about 3 years, i droped in an engine and tranny but the rest of the car was and is still junk, so its a little project, i have been driving it for about a month and a half. I replaced the master cylinder today, i seem to have fixed it from what i can tell, but only time will tell.
how do the master cylinders go bad anyway? Fluid contamination?
That particular master cylinder was only maybe about 5 months old thanks for the reply 1adan.
