proportioning valve modifications

i have swapped from drums to discs from a fourth gen on the rear end, and the fourth gen proportioning valve has differently threaded fittings than the original brake lines do. i changed the spring from the fourth gen to the original proportioning valve, but is there a check valve that needs to be removed aswell? or any other modification neccesary?

thanks

Re: proportioning valve modifications

We swapped our 85 drum to a 90 disc rear, also got the proportioning valve from the 90, I found that the 85 used fine thread on two of the line's on the car, the 90 uses coarse.

All I did was run the course die over the fine threads, since course cuts deeper into the fitting it worked fine. This may sound like a really poor fix but you can hardly see any thread defects and since the flair seals the fluid we didn't have any problems.

Re: proportioning valve modifications

To the last guy that posted: What exactly is a "lemons" race? That's a new one on me. Granted I've only been around racing for 4 decades or so, so there's always something new for me to discover, usually right around the corner; maybe this is one such thing?

Thanks in advance for some education!!

Re: proportioning valve modifications

Look up 24 Hrs. of LeMons. It's a for fun version of the 24 Hrs. of Lemans. The car can't be worth more than $500.00 not counting tires, wheels, brakes & safety equipment.

When you get past tech you go to the BS judge, if he decides tour car is worth more, he gives you extra laps. Jay Lamb is the promoter, Iv'e herd some complaint's about Jay but Iv'e only had good experience's with him, been to dinner a couple of times in the SF Bay Area & had a great time.

One thing about LeMons, don't show up trying to be Mr. Racer, the idea is to just have a good time road racing on the cheap, it's a BLAST!

yeah, i'd prefer not to do that to the threads, i think it'll work, if not i know flynbye sells them.

Re: proportioning valve modifications

Guess I should have added this earlier, since I didn't (and still don't) have the metric flaring tool I just tried recutting the threads to see how it looked, if it came out bad I would just cut off the flair, buy the proper B nuts & flaring tool to do a proper job, but like I said earlier it came out fine.

But when it gets down to it you have to comfortable with the repairs and modifications that you do with your own car, plus half the fun is figuring this stuff out- Good Luck
