Nice pic, the difference between the 1LE and LS1 pads is less significant then I thought it bee.

Yeah but I'm going with ls1. Ppl putting new camaro ss, ctsv, vettes zr1, z06, c5 on a 3klbs car is over kill with a car wit no abs. Seem like the wheels will just lock up, if u are not stoping from speeds of 160+ offten that its not needed to me its just become RICE its just for looks

Many people have good reasons for what that do. I could call out 90% of the people on the suspension forum because their cars will never see the race track but that would be just stupid of me. You don't need to go to the track to enjoy a nice suspension.

With that said, there are many of us that take full advantage of large brakes. The OEM brakes wouldn't last a lap on any track I can think of. An LS1 brake setup would probably last a while on stock power with track pads. But then you have to switch pads at the track, and thats no fun. The beauty of a total overkill setup is no pad changes at the track. Plus the big brakes inspire a lot of confidence, the pedal feel is way better than normal stuff. My car with midsized Wilwoods has better brake feel than my Dad's C6 Z51. Good feel is nice to have when you need to haul it down from 140+ to 60 for the next corner. Also, not to many 3k lb cars here. More like 3400-3600 for a full weight car. Add on top of that more HP than stock and you can see value in the big brake setups.

So just because you won't be taking your car to the track doesn't mean the rest of us aren't.

Finally, I appreciate the pictures but pad area is a pretty minor factor in brake performance. Sure more pad area means the pad will last longer and will keep pads a bit cooler, but it won't make the car stop faster. A better measure would be pad volume, but still only an indicator of pad life.

John (off my soap box now)

Re: how much more bigger than stock pads

Car will be tracked and will used aft mrk for ls1 car and its was imo. I'm sure ppl do need it the the 250+ mph T/A. And we stock 1le pads I think they the same as c4 vettes calipers look the same but are not. I order stuff too lol. We had bout 4 sets of 1LE pads so we stock them well and the calipers are just 50 bucks a piece ppl just sell them at high price for the hell of it.
My car sys is all done up with subframe connetor, poly front link pins, torque arm, LCA's, panhard bar. My car won't see much track time but its more a street race car. They sell 2pc ceramic rotors and full race pads for LS1 brakes. But than I guess if they drive on the streets the full race 1s will not be good for that, they only work good when hot. 13+ rotors and pads will work in both, like some ppl use 8in drag rads and some use 11in street tires. But ls1 is the 1 for me
