LT1 PBR ?'s
I have just swapped a '94 Z28 rear in my '89. When I checked out an exploded view of the calipers so that I could rebuild them I noticed a small metal that went between the pads. The calipers on my rear didn't have these and there was some silicone on the back of pads between them and the pistons.
My questions are...are these metal pieces nessasary? And how good (and safe) is it to use silicone to hold the pads in place? I think I already know the answer to this one.

I'm don't know what they are called, they are H shaped and look to be very thin. Thanks, Steve

Those go in the top of the caliper above the spring wire on the pad. I guess it keeps the harder spring wire material from wearing into the aluminum caliper.
