LS1 Front Brake Question

Hey guys.

I do not know what to do about steering stops with the LS1 front calipers.

Should I

A) just cut the stops on the A-arms shorter?
B) make some kind of a new stop?
C) just grind the caliper's banjo bolt down?
D) a combination of steps above?
E) do nothing?

What happens if there is NO stop of any kind? Won't the wheels turn too far and cause tires to rub? I hear if the banjo bolt catches the stock stop then turning radius is affected negatively.

I cannot think clearly lately, and I'm stumped.

Thanks to anyone who helps out here.

Re: LS1 Front Brake Question

Run wider wheels/tires. Then the tire "stops" at the fenderwell/frame rail.

FYI, this is said in half-jest.

Re: LS1 Front Brake Question

so what hits? does the banjo actually hit on your car? you do not want anything hitting any part of the brake system. I dont have ls1 brakes so i dont know where and how they interfeer with the stops, but if would be best to modify the stops to clear the brakes while still contacting the spindle to act as a stop.

you can remove the stop all together, check and make sure the brakes lines dont get in the way of anything from lock to lock. The tires will either hit the chassis and stop, or the steering boxes internal stops will stop the steering. I dont know which will happen first and it does depend on what wheels you are using.

Re: LS1 Front Brake Question

I made extensions to steering stops.About 10mm longer than original stops.Without extensions banjobolt hits to steering stop rivet.

Re: LS1 Front Brake Question

OK, so what hits the extended stop? How does this prevent the banjo bolt from hitting the stop...does something else hit the stop now?

I had to cut the bottom ear off the spindle to make room for the lower bracket bolt.

That 10mm longer a-arm steering stop hits to spindle.Just like with original brakes.
Forget to say that I didn't cut off original steering stop from spindle,I made ony enough room to allenhead bolt.
