one pad larger than the other??

last year my car wouldnt pass inspection because of break issues... i didnt trust the tech at firestone cuz the estimate was $2100!!! i never went eslewhere for a 2nd opinion but a friend i work with the goes to uti for ase is gonna take a look...
my rear pass brake pad is almost double the width of the drivers side...
the mech said i need a new prop valve, poss master cylinder, hoses, calipers, etc...
now i was told that there isnt a true way to test prop or master with out taking out and testing with a flow meter which the mech didnt do cuz i checked the bolts, screws etc...
i pulled all wheels and lines and hoses look fine... the clips are a little rusty but good and calipers look a llittle grimey but i guess i clea n those with brake cleaner or degreaser... i may change caliper and prop as a precaution but any advice would help alot... thnx

Re: one pad larger than the other??

if one side of the pad is much worse than the other, its going to be an issue with the slide pins the caliper mounts to not allowing the caliper to slide and its binding, and only using one side of the pad to stop. Or at the same time, dragging the other pad causing the premature wear.

you can get re manufactured calipers for almost nothing, seriously. So parhaps pickup some new caliper, flex hoses if you need them, new pads and new rotors if the old ones are scored. Make sure the pins that hold the caliper on are clean and greased, and you should be good to go.

they will look scored? i dont know hoe else to explain it. If they are not smooth as glass, they are not good.

you can clear everything with brake cleaner, grease with high temp waterproof grease
