welding caliper brackets

I turned down the drum axles in a lathe, and I've got my caliper brackets. I was thinking of cenering them on the correct spot and just welding them to the drum flange, rather than drilling and bolting them.

What do you folks think?

How are you going to change rotors?

He's talking about the backing plate to the axle housing.

I think if done well, there is nothing wrong with your plan. Of course it will remove a bit a flexibility in case you want to change again in the future. And you need to keep heat out of everything so it does not warp. You really need the caliper to be parallel with the rotor. Weld very slowly and maybe keep everything covered in wet rags.
