Brake Issues....

1987 IROC Z. 305CID. 700R4 w/ OD. 4 wheel disc.

I have a new master cylinder, new fluid, new pads, new rotors, new calipers. Lines were bled with the two man system.

I was doing some "spirited driving." Came to a part of the road that was steep down hill on a turn. I dove into the turn and applied the brakes. The brake light came on and the car wasn't really stopping, with my foot to the floor the brakes were just slowing me down. Once I leveled off the brake light went off and my brakes were there again.

The brake light also came on then off a few days before. I slammed on my brakes at highway speed to avoid killing a guy on a motor cycle who was driving like a idiot. Anyway, my brake light went on then off.

Other than that I haven't had any break issue. What could be the cause? My fluid level is fine, my brake relay is not rotted and looks to be in good shape. I'm stumped...

Re: Brake Issues....

It sounds like for ordinary use everything seems fine. If in extreme cases only it seems the question comes back to why the brake light comes on. I always thought it came on when the slide switch in the combination valve went to far in one direction. With this in mind I would be looking at the adjustments to the rear brakes. This is a known problem area and could possibly be fixed by having or getting the rears working and adjusted properly and always using the parking brake. It may not be but is worth checking.
