Finally got the front suspension in and am going to start running brake lines and feul lines. I have a 10 bolt posi rear from a 92 z28 rebuilt and in the car. I want to go with LS1 package for the front but what about the rears? Any sugestions would be appreciated. Anything special I need for the booster/master cylinder? I was told to use a forth gen master because I have Founders CC plates installed and the forth gen is smaller then 3rd gens. Also plan on running brand new brake lines but was just going to go with new oem lines. Will these be ok or do I need something different?

 

Since you have already settled on the LS1 brakes for the front, I would just go with the LS1 rears as well.

Stock master and booster are fine if they are in good working order. I can't imagine Founders would make plates that don't work with the stock master.

New OEM hard lines are fine. You might have some modifying on the rear axle hard line, I'm not sure.

 

I have not really settled on anything yet....open for any sugestions and learning as I go.

 

What are you looking to do with the car?

Road racing?
Track days?
Autocross?
Street?
Drag?

That is my order of how critical brakes are, from most critical to least.

That should at least narrow you down to the minimum brake kit you need.

From there its a balance of:
- cost
- pedal feel
- bling
- wheel fitment

For pedal feel, check out this chart. Pay attention to the last two columns. It helps to know what you like in pedal effort and travel.

This is just going to be a little hot rod that I will cruise around town, If anything I may race it a time or two if someone pulls up next to me but thats about it.

 

If you have the stock 92 rear discs, they'll be fine.

Pretty much about the same as the LS1 rears except for the parking brake.

 

What trans do you plan on running? And what wheels do you want to run? That would be the next step once you decide how you are using the car. I went LS1 front, and PBR rear. Reason is I want the parking brake due to the manual trans. I've read of issues with fitment with the LS1 rears and the 16 inch wheels I want to run on non track days. I'm building my 84 to appear stock, but be nowhere near stock.

I found it easier to run the PBRs and factory cables than to modify the setup to run LS1 rears with the integral parking brake. I'm not done with my brake system yet, still need hard lines and pads and rear calipers along with parking brake cables.

 

Then you should feel free to pick basically any rear setup. As pointed out here, the PBR setup would be the choice of the stock setups and would make your life the easiest.

 

I will be rebuilding the 700 r4 stall converter and z pack. I am going to be putting on 17 inch torque thrust 2. Im not road racing or nothing like that. Just an around town cruiser.
