Parking brake dis-engages...ugh!!!

The parking break disengages and will not stay engaged at full pull aft-ward.

The handle/brake is sensitive, the slightest touch sends the parking brake down and disengages it very quick...

Any suggestions?

I know I need to replace the left rear brake caliper, due to leakage...can that be the culprit?

I should mention that the brake barely stays engaged but only at about 1/2 travel aft.

Re: Parking brake dis-engages...ugh!!!

check your e brake cables . thats not the reason for the disengagement . but check them any way remove both rear wheels have a friend watch the cable ends while you hold the button in and pull up and down on the lever a bunch of times ,have him check both sides for lever movement. (the calipers have nothing to do with the e brake) there is a mini drum type set up behind the disk with mini e brake shoes .works just like drum brakes. as for the slipping the e brake lever has teeth with a ratchet system the teeth on the lever or the half moon receiver are probably rounded and need replacing best thing to do is remove the top of the console and watch what happens when you try to engage the e brake . some times they get grease on the teeth . wipe them clean . if the teeth are rounded replace the whole setup. if your car is a 1990 or newer camaro you will have to disconect the cable under the car to rais the brake lever far enough to get the console top to clear the dash . 1989 and older ... skip this step.
