Which Big Brake Upgrade (Front)

Which big brake upgrade should I do for the front of my car. I have 18" wheels so I want to fill them up.
I'd perfer one of them kits that are per-assembled with the spindle and all (if possible)
I found one kit that was a Z06 kit I believe and said Corvette on the calipers if I remember right, but I can't remember where I seen it.
I perfer red calipers btw.
What are my options without braking the bank?

Re: Which Big Brake Upgrade (Front)

I see a couple of post here from you just recently asking which this, and which that shoud I buy. My suggestion to you is to simply start reading and educate yourself first on what you have- plus what is availiable before you start just throwing money at your car from advice of strangers.

How much is "not breaking the bank"?

What will you be using the car for?

How do you like your break pedal?

Short?
Long?
Firm?
Soft?

Re: Which Big Brake Upgrade (Front)

The big brake kit is the one that's confusing me basically.
Lines I got my answer, tires I got an answer. And I've had very few lsx swap questions. I've done so much reading that I've ended up confusing myself occasionally.

I would perfer not to spend over $1500 for a COMPLETE big brake kit. When I say complete, I mean every nut and bolt and the brakes already per-assembled onto the spindle and just needing to be bolted onto the car.
The car is just a toy that doesn't get driven too much, but I definitely need an upgrade over stock. I may take it to the 1/8th and 1/4 mile some times but that's about it. Mostly highway driving though.

I was looking online at BigBrakeUpgrade.com and like the C6 ZR1 kit. How is this kit?
I really like the 6-piston C6 Z06 kit more but imagine that's gonna be outta my price range.

Well then you have come to the right place.

The C6 ZR1 brakes are FAR above of your budget.

C6 Z06 are probably close or a bit of a stretch for your budget.

There are plenty of good brakes in your price range.

C5/C6/C6Z51/C6_14"
LS1
Wilwood FSL
1LE
5th Gen Camaro SS

Honestly for your requirements, the OEM brakes in good working order are just fine. If you want to improve looks or pedal feel then the aftermarket brakes can do that for you.

Re: Which Big Brake Upgrade (Front)

Sorry, it was the C6 Z51 brake kit from Big Brake Upgrade.

My brakes are all original from 91 still, so it's its repair or upgrade. I got the LS1 rear diff/brakes on the back now.
I want something to fill up the 18x9.5 wheels I have. I like the look of 13" or 14" rotors in the 18" wheels.
Mostly for looks, some performance.

Re: Which Big Brake Upgrade (Front)

Also. Do any of these brakes make the front end a little wider?
I am currently running 2" wheel spacers but need 2.25" spacers.
Would be alot nicer if the brakes made up the 1/4" for me

If it is all for looks, then I don't understand what you question is? Do you want us to tell you what looks best to you?

Its all in your hands.

All in a 17" wheel:

Std C5/C6

C6 Z51

C6 std caliper on C6 ZR1 rotor

Camaro SS

C6 Z06

Wilwood FSL 13"

They will all push the wheels out approx 0.3" from stock.

Re: Which Big Brake Upgrade (Front)

I am basically lookin for a kit that comes pre assembled and just need to be pointed in the right direction.
When it said "substitute gray calipers with red calipers" on BigBrakeUpgrade on the Z51 kit. Does that mean I will be getting red calipers if I click that box?
I want the red calipers (match the rear).

So with all these kits pushin the tires out 0.3", I won't need the 2.25" spacers anymore than.
Also, do most of these kits come with drilled/slotted rotors?
Do most kits also come with the stainless brake lines for the front?

Sorry for all the questions on these, I am clueless when it comes to a big brake

I would suggest a simple phone call to the vendor. I am sure they will be happy to help. I wouldn't presume to answer for them.

CORVETTE C4 13"HD BRAKE UPGRADE WILL GIVE YOU A 1/4" EXTRA WIDTH AT WHEEL MOUNT SURFACE PER SIDE. rotors are much easier to swap once upgrade is done due to hub and rotor being 2 separate pieces after mods are completed.

Re: Which Big Brake Upgrade (Front)

Most of these rotors are around .300 inches thick, so they should cover the .25 inches.

Corvette brakes should allow you to keep your steering stops. At least the C5 brakes will from what I understand.

Substitute gray with red means you get red.

I dont know who John is, and Im sure he's cool, but I have experience with Scott at BigBrakeUpgrade.com and he is good peoples with good products.

hey John
Just reading the thread here on disk brake up grades.
Looking to do something with my 83 Z28. I have 16" IROC rims which I'd like to retain. Daily driver, but has a lot of performance upgrades power train wise. Can we replace rotors/calipers using stock spindles or ?
Thnx Clint

Re: Which Big Brake Upgrade (Front)

For daily driving, all of the above front brakes will be a huge improvement over stock. Your existing ls1 rears are good too. If all you car about is looks the I love the c6 z06 brakes. But honestly you want to look at things more than just looks. parts availability and prices are a big factor. i stayed with ls1 front brakes because i can find them anywhere and they are decent budget..with great stopping power. You can always get slotted rotors with decent pads..paint the calipers and have a nice looking budget friendly setup. My 2nd choice was the ctsv setup. I got my ls1 complete front kits from bbu and love that i can fit my oem wheels..and aftermarket without issue.

Clint wants to retain the 16" wheels. Which knocks just about every one of those off the list because they will not fit.

Maybe the Wilwood will stay in the running, but everything else is out.

I have the C5 brake swap on my car, and I do not think it would fit under any of the OEM 16" wheels. There might be some aftermarket ones it could possibly fit under, but I don't know which ones.

The offset, and inner diameter of the barrel are what matters in terms of it fitting in the wheel less than the outer diameter. Its just that with larger diameter rims you get an easy increase in inner diameter.

Re: Which Big Brake Upgrade (Front)

Hence why I said ls1 fronts do fit and maybe a spacer for oem wheels with plenty of stopping power. Also iirc bbu has also fit ctsv calipers on ls1 rotors that still fit oem gta wheels. which a lot of 4th gen guys seem to do for an improved caliper design.

Re: Which Big Brake Upgrade (Front)

wilwood and c7/ats brembo is only one if staying with 16" wheel all others need a 18" min and depending on 17" can clear also depending on wheel design and some have did some grinding on caliper to clear some wheels as well

the C7/ATS brembos not the ctsv ones on smaller rrotor both ctsv and c7 calipers are different and the newer c7/ats brembos are more compact design compared to ctsv

like mention above every wheel is different

Re: Which Big Brake Upgrade (Front)

Stock 4th gen LS1 brakes will fit under stock 16" Iroc wheels and are MUCH better than stock brakes. Maybe not track car performance, but my Iroc stops better than any other car I've owned. They were affordable (under $800) and fit the stock wheels.
