4th Gen rear brakes not self adjusting any more?

Hello all,

I did some work on the car and installed some lower control arm relocation brackets and what not and after putting everything back together to go for a test drive I noticed excessive slop in the brake pedal.

I have 96 4th gen brakes in the rear. There are no leaks in the hydraulics from what I can see and I pumped and drove the car a bit and there is no drop in brake fluid.

In addition, the brakes work well I just need to push the pedal almost to the floor to make them fully work.

I also noticed that if I drive in reverse and hit the brakes hard a few times that the brakes will return to how they were originally for a few brakes but will return to excessive brake pedal movement.

I am thinking that the self adjusting on the calipers must be shot and that the pads are backing off Everytime but I though I would ask to see what people though before I do anything to extensive.

Thanks

do you need to use the parking brake to adjust those calipers?

I use the parking brake all the time but from my understanding it was only 82-88 calipers that were like that but I'm not 100% sure.

Found the issue, turns out that the parking brake bracket was pushed up against the relocation bracket and applying force to the caliper so Everytime the pads would back off they would back off too far causing excessive pedal movement and grinding noises as a result of twisted calipers.

Solution was a parking brake mod 2.0 which involved cutting one side of the bracket, bending it out to eliviate the stress on the calipers and then re weld the bracket.
