can't get ebrake cables off the car

how do you release the ebrake cables from the brackets on either side of the tunnel under the car? I've tried pulling and pushing them all kinds of ways and i'm sure it has something to do with the little metal tabs that are sticking out but can't get them to squeeze in. and suggestions? I see a tool made by LISLE that is supposed to be for removing parking brake cables but can't find one locally to see if it would work.

Try a zip tie to squeeze the tabs together.

Re: can't get ebrake cables off the car

I just crawled out from under my car do'n the same thing, I used a pair of pliers. There's three tabs/fingers holding them in, With the pliers crimp one tab in and pull the cable housing outward crooked so the finger goes through the hole. Then move to the next finger then the last, They will pop right out.

I had both mine out in around 30 seconds.......

Mine were pretty rusty maybe thats why I had more problems. Did the pliers thing again and got one off in a few minutes of messing with it. The other one I slid a socket around it and compressed them enough to get it off. The zip tie thing didn't work for me. Thanks for the quick replys guys.
