Hello, all, I have never posted in the brakes section, despite being around for a couple years on the board.

I have a 1988 Pontiac Trans Am GTA that has a leaking prop valve. The brakes were just done, meaning, the master cylinder was replaced as were the front calipers and pads. Today the brake light went on and the brakes felt a little funny.

When I got home I saw that there was fluid around the prop valve and with the key on engine off, I disconnected the electrical connector and the light went out. Reconnected it and it goes back on.

My question to you all is what is the best place to get a new prop valve. The car is a bit of a daily driver and I am prepping it for an LS based engine swap, so money is tight.

Can I go to autozone or rockauto and just pick one up, or should I avoid a regular auto parts store?

It is all wheel disk brakes, non 1LE style.

And yes I know this was probably mentioned somewhere in this part of the board, but I would like to get the part or atleast put it on order because I need the car as soon as possible.

 

another question, I have checked the fluid level and it seems like its okay, can I drive like this as long as I keep an eye on the fluid?

 

I found the part number for the ac-delco prop valve it is

172-2005. I am getting it from amazon.
