Vacuum Pump Install

Ive been running my SSBC vacuum pump with a resivor canister inline with it and a second check valve on the brake booster. The normal port on my intake manifold used has been capped and have been just using the pump for brakes. Im just wondering if the resivor canister is helping or hurting me. When I installed the pump originally I had already had an aftermarket resivor installed so i just added the pump to the system . My cam does not produce enough for my brake booster. So im stuck using a pump.

I don't believe the canister is hurting you. I installed the same vacuum pump on a vehicle (1972 Elcamino SS) that had a canister already previously installed. The pump comes with a vacuum switch that turns the pump on, only when needed. What I did on the vehicle I installed it on was hooked the vacuum line from the engine to the outlet of the pump. The inlet of the pump I connected to the vacuum check valve of the canister. Then the canister feeds the booster. All of the vehicles vacuum system was also attached to the canister. Going down the road at cruising speed the engine produced enough vacuum to operate the a/c controls and cruise control without activating the pump. When the engine idled it had low vacuum and the pump would kick on.

Re: Vacuum Pump Install

Is there a way to have the engine vacuum connect inline with the vacuum pumps hose going to the brake booster? It's way closer to run that way. My pump is mounted underneath where the charcoal cannister would be to avoid heat from the engine compartment. I don't know if I would need a second check valve isolating the engine vacuum from the pumps vacuum.
